In 2012, Dr Dwyer with Luo Xiang led a team to negotiate and conclude a joint venture agreement with a large state-owned enterprise, Beijing Capital Land, to found the Haileybury International School Tianjin (www.haileybury.cn) as a K-12 boarding school for Chinese students seeking a pathway overseas. This is possibly the first occasion on which a foreign school established a branch campus in the People’s Republic of China to operate for local students within the Chinese educational system. Dr Dwyer served as its Principal and CEO to 2017, quickly bringing the business to profitability and establishing it as north China’s premier international school.
